Nearly a decade ago, I was given a book by Carmel Curro entitled Home Made Poems. I had already received many books from Carmel in my life, but this one was particularly special: she herself was the author. Within Home Made Poems, there are a plethora of stories, including whimsical observations of rainbows, shoes, coffee pots and fresh tomatoes.
A truly enjoyable read, like all of Carmel’s poetry, Home Made Poems became the foundation for Moray Street. To contextualise the title, the Curro family home stands proudly on Moray Street, New Farm. Many are of the opinion that this real-estate is the finest in all of Brisbane; a sign assures me Moray Street is Brisbane’s most liveable street.
