The Lord is my light (2022)

7.5mins SATB and strings Psalm 27
For Edward-Rys Harry and the Harlow Chorus
2nd Prize winner of the 2022 Harlow Chorus Young Composer Competition
Psalm 27
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? 4 One thing I ask of the Lord, that I will seek after; to live in the house of The Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of The Lord and to inquire in his temple. 13 I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage. In The Lord is my light, I have striven to capture the competing moods of Psalm 27. It is certainly a psalm that glorifies the greatness of God, but its fourth verse does seem to me to be somewhat doubtful, somewhat urgent, almost demanding of the Lord an entitled reciprocity. This human error is, though, only temporary; His beauty triumphs. I wrote The Lord is my light as a submission to the Harlow Chorus’ 2022 Young Composer Competition. Of late, I have very much enjoyed interpreting and setting the Word of God.
